“Hey. Where were you? I looked for you everywhere” Sky asked as soon as Ava entered her bedroom. Sky had been waiting for Ava, reading one of her books on her bed. Ava smiled then sighed and told Sky enough half-truths to keep her best friend’s curiosity at bay.

“I met up with Demetri in the woods. It’s kinda complicated but he’s sort of helping me with something. I know that’s cryptic but I can’t tell you anything more at the moment.” Ava spoke apologetically, pleading with her eyes for Sky not to press too much. Taking the hint Sky threw her with her next question.

“Wow OK wasn’t expecting that. Does Billy know?”

It was only then that she stopped to think about how it might look to Billy. Had Demetri told him anything? She quickly dismissed that idea, Billy would have said something if he knew. If she made a point of explaining it to Billy. It would make it seem like something she had to explain, at least that was how she justified it to herself.

“No Billy doesn’t know and it's nothing he needs to know about.” Ava said to Sky’s unimpressed face.

“Demetri and I aren’t even friends. We are two people with similar interests, who are helping each other out.” That wasn’t strictly true, as she wasn’t helping him and their interests were opposites, but those were minor details.

“Fine it’s your call but my advice is to mention it to Billy because if you don’t; it’s like some big sordid secret.” Ava listened to the advice then rejected it, it was a secret. If it became public knowledge then Demetri would stop helping her, right now that wasn’t even thinkable. It was only the thought that he could help that stopped her from losing it.

“OK, now Sky tell me what you have been hiding all day. And very badly may I add.” Ava asked deliberately then laughed when Sky’s whole face went red.

“You witch, you knew, didn’t you? All day I have been panicking about how to tell you, and how you would react but you knew all along.”

Ava gave a fake look of innocence. “Knew what?” Which got her a pillow smashed in her face. They had an epic pillow war until one of the pillows broke and they were sprayed in feathers. They called a truce so that they still had some pillows left.

“I came looking for you yesterday evening and found the two of you, together.” Ava admitted in the name of truce.

“We’d been waiting, we didn’t want to make you feel awkward. I know it will take a bit of time to get used too. But above everything else we are three friends first and whatever happens between me and Skit comes after that.” Sky tried to reassure Ava.

“I know I’m happy for you guys, I really am, but like you said it will take a bit of time.” Ava said glumly. She wanted to ask Sky how it was, and how it all happened.
