Chapter Four

Dexter lay on his back, exactly where Taharial had put him. The softly snoring man was still covering half his body. Not that he could feel any of the gorgeous hard muscles he suspected were hidden under the pants and sweatshirt. The full paralysis had returned with a vengeance once rational thought had taken over. The shock of his renewed helplessness had kept him awake, and he was using the time to think about everything that had happened since Taharial had entered his life.

First, the revelation about him being healed and only thinking he was paralyzed. How the hell that was supposed to work still wasn't clear to him. Then the idea of his mind actually influencing the hospital machines? That was even crazier. And yet—the undeniable truth of Taharial making him feel parts of his body, and now even making him orgasm, told its own story. That indicated he really was healed, so the thing about him influencing the machines—somehow—must be true.

Whatever Taharial did every time they held hands had also had an effect. Not only had Dexter been able to feel physical arousal, his entire body had tingled, much in the same way as if his limbs had simply fallen asleep and were now trying to wake up again.

What if Taharial was right? Did Dexter actually have some sort of psychic ability? If that was true, and if he could figure out how to use it to regain control over his body, he was willing to believe anything. Taharial had said there was some sort of negative energy in his body, and that he needed to get rid of it. He couldn't wait for Taharial to wake up so they could work on it again.

By the time he realized that he'd drifted off to sleep and taken an involuntary nap after all, it was dark outside. The electric alarm clock showed just after seven, and his stomach felt empty enough to want food. That, too, was a first since the accident. He turned his head to the other side to check if Taharial was still there, but the other man had left. Hopefully to prepare dinner. It was too bad, since he'd liked the feeling of someone else in his bed. He'd missed it for too long.

What nonsense! Taharial had pretty much told him that he was here for one reason only. Even though he had given Dexter relief, there was no reason to think the man wanted to stay beyond whatever time it took to heal him.

"Ah, you are awake." Taharial entered the room carrying a tray loaded with two large bowls of what smelled like tomato soup and a stack of toasted bread that might be enough to feed an army.

"Dinner?" His voice sounded pathetically hopeful. When his stomach rumbled as if to support his need to eat, he wanted to die of embarrassment. Depending on someone else for every single body function other than breathing was turning out to be much worse now that he was out of the hospital.
