KHALA

Hycathe looked at me like I was the last person in the world she wanted to see. Since that was basically her default expression, I shrugged it off. The smile I gave Jezalyn was genuine though. She was sweet. In time, the alpha woman and I might even be friends.

If Hycathe lightened up, we might be friends someday too.

"Jezalyn has ordered Hycathe not to listen to any other alphas as well," Ryze said. "All three omegas will now be able to ignore us and do whatever the hells they want."

Vayne grunted and Tavian grinned.

"Isn't it adorable that he thinks we didn't already do whatever the hells we want?" Tavian asked me.

I smiled. "Definitely. It's like he hasn't met any of us."

Ryze shook his head indulgently. "Your impertinence is so cute. I can't decide whose ass I want to smack more."

"He's such a flirt today. Is it because you now have some competition?" Tavian's gaze slipped over to Cavan.

"I'm always a flirt," Ryze said. He turned to Cavan. "Your portal or mine?"

Cavan hefted his pack higher up his shoulders. "Does it matter?"

"It might," Ryze said. "My portal might be better than your portal."

"I don't think it's possible for a portal to be better than another one." Cavan gave him a funny look.

Tavian sighed loudly. "I hate it when daddy and daddy fight."

I put a hand over my mouth to stifle a laugh.

"See, you've upset the omegas," Ryze said.

"Are we going to stand here wasting time, or are we going?" Hycathe asked. "Because we all have better things to do than listen to you argue."

"I think what she's trying to say is that someone needs to open a fucking portal," Vayne said.

"Yes, I got that," Ryze told him. "All right, I'll do it." With a snap of his wrist, he split the air in front of him.

The tunnel on the other end of the portal was dark. Not completely dark. It was light enough to see where to put one foot in front of the other, but it wasn't the bright, icy illumination I was more used to.

"It's further to Nallis than anywhere I've taken you before," Ryze explained. He must have seen the expression on my face. "It might feel disconcerting walking through, but it should be perfectly safe."

"Should be?" Hycathe repeated. She looked disbelieving.

"It's a magic portal, there are no absolutes," Ryze told her. "Especially with missing courts opening portals in the sky. While the chance of anyone making another that dissects with mine is slim, it's not impossible."

"What happens then?" Jezalyn asked. She moved closer to Hycathe and looked as though she was about to refuse to let her come with us.

"I have no idea," Ryze said lightly. He glanced at Cavan.

"I don't know either," Cavan said. "I'm assuming it won't be good, so we should hurry." He punctuated his words by turning and stepping into the portal.

"That kind of bravery is kinda hot," Tavian said. He grabbed my hand and Zared's in his and we all stepped inside together.
