maybe you can be on the cabinet next year. Then maybe you can run for office yourself. Better start now. There’s so much to get involved with in college, but most students don’t take advantage of programs and extracurricular activities that could make them a more well-rounded individual. Don’t you make that mistake. If SGA isn’t your cup of tea, find out what is. Get involved with something.”
We both smiled. I never had an older sister. I always wondered what it would be like. Dymond loved talking about hers. The bond they shared seemed really cool. If I had an older sister, I would want her to be like Hayli. Since that can’t be changed, it was nice to have her in my life. She helped me with the stuff that no one thought about.
“Payton, when you want to get somewhere in life, there are steps you have to take. You don’t just go from A to Z. If you want to get involved with SGA, get with Karlton. Let him groom you and show you the ropes.”
We went to a restaurant in Norcross, Georgia, called Papadeaux. It was so good. I was always a seafood lover, and the fried catfish and alligator were delicious.
Around dessert time, the waiter came and brought a cake, and we all sang “Happy Birthday” to Dakari. His family then pulled out all of their presents. His brother gave him a fat envelope, and I knew it was nothing but cash. Dakari was so spoiled. He had the biggest smile upon his face.
“Payton, sweetie, I don’t want you to think we forgot about you,” his mom said as she pulled out a beautiful silver-wrapped box. “We’ve been celebrating your birthday ever since you and Dakari became friends. 1 know yours is next week. Here ya go, babe.”
“It’s beautiful,” I said after opening it.
It was a gorgeous outfit from Saks.
“I’m so proud of all of you guys. We’ve got a wedding to plan, and soon there will be babies.”
