The wise thing would be to tell him we can’t do this and disappear into my own room, then think about what we came close to doing and swear to myself it won’t happen again. There’s this gleam in his eyes, though, that I can’t deny tonight, and it has me whispering, “I want this,” into the dark room.

Throughout the entire night, I wanted to stand from the dinner table, give my dad and brother a piece of my mind, and leave before they could insult Ryker even more than they already did. I’d had enough of it when I heard Elias talking to Ryker outside the door, and as much as I wanted to hold my emotions in, I couldn’t deny Ryker the truth when he asked me what was going on.

Did I think he’d end up kissing me like his life depended on it? Not at all.

Am I happy he did it? I shouldn’t be, but the way my lips are still tingling from his heated kiss is enough to give me the answer to that question.

Ryker slowly inches closer to me, his eyes trailing over my frame with heat swirling in them, and I shift onto the bed under his gaze. There’s something about the way he looks at me that makes my entire body come alive and my skin prickle under the attention, and I never want to lose that feeling. It’s insane to think about, considering who he’s supposed to be to me.

If anyone found out we were doing this, my career would be toast.

I guess it’s a good thing there’s no one around to catch us.

Ryker brings a hand over my inner thigh and trails his knuckles lightly against the thick flesh. Goosebumps erupt, following the trail of his touch as he drags it under my shirt and over my stomach. I wiggle under it, desperate to feel more, and he smirks under the dim lighting that escapes from the bathroom.

The way the light shines over his face makes him look like an angel coming to life, which I realize is odd to say about a man – it’s just true in this case, and I can’t stop staring at him. I must look like a lovesick idiot to him, but he doesn’t seem to mind as he leans forward and grips the edge of my shirt with his teeth.

My breath gets caught in my throat as he slides over my body, pulling the shirt with him, and I gasp when the air hits my chest. Since I had a t-shirt on today, I decided to forgo a bra because it becomes irritating when working on the ranch, and Ryker’s eyes blaze at the sight of my breasts. “No bra all damn day, Wren?”

A low growl escapes his throat before he leans into them and swirls his tongue around one nipple, then turns his attention onto the other. His touch, mixed with the air rolling over me and his tongue making my toes curl, has my nipples pebbling.
