THE HOT DOG BIRD

“First things first,” Desmond said. “We need to eat.”

I followed him over to a hot dog stand. How could he be thinking about food at a time like this? We were just chased off the beach by a mersurfer of all things!

Then he handed me a hot dog, and my stomach did a happy dance. I guess fear makes me hungry!

We ate our hot dogs as we walked down the pier. Desmond Cole always had a plan, and this time, I started to figure out what he was thinking. The pier stretched over the water, and from there, we could see the whole beach and the ocean . . . including the mersurfers.
