Chapter Twelve

The next day, Dinero walked into his mother’s house and was welcomed by the smell of cooked food. He walked to the kitchen and found Rochelle hovering over pots that were on the stove. Carlos was seated at the kitchen table watching a college basketball game.

“What's up, Carlos?” Dinero greeted him.

“Shit, I can’t call it.”

Dinero walked over and kissed Rochelle’s cheek. She shot him a death stare causing him to laugh.

“Why are you muggin’ me, Mama?” Dinero asked as he took a seat at the island.

“You know why. What hell is your problem, Dinero? Are you trying to get divorced?” she hissed.

“Nah, I'm not. It looked worse than what it was. Did you see me hugging her back?” he argued.

“No, but you sure didn’t stop her from wrapping her arms around you. Is that the girl you got caught with at the bar?”

Dinero twisted his face wondering how his mother knew about that incident. “Who told you about that?”

“Paris and Camara. You know my girls keep me up to date with the tea. Now answer my question. Was that her?”

“Yeah Ma, that was her,” he said with a deep sigh. “But I don’t like her like I used to.”

“I can’t tell,” she snapped and then rolled her eyes. “You need to stay away from that girl. It’s obvious that she doesn’t care about your marriage because if she did, she wouldn’t be throwing that coochie at you.”

Dinero laughed at his mother remarks. She never held back when it came to her opinion. He was just like her in many ways. They both said what was on their mind and never censored their views or thoughts.

“You wanna be a cheater like your daddy?”

“Man, Pops ain't cheat on you,” Dinero disagreed.

Rochelle smacked her lips. “You can’t tell me him and Celine weren’t messing around while we were together.”

“Don’t start, Rochelle,” Carlos warned.

“Okay, okay. Dinero asked, hell,” she said with her hands in the air.

“Damn Ma, Carlos got you in check,” Dinero teased.

“You shut up and get your own damn life in check before you be ass out. I might even call Asia and let her know how your ass been acting a fool since she’s been out of town,” she threatened.

Dinero’s face suddenly turned serious. “Come on, Mama; don’t do that. You're tryin’ to get me cut.”

“I don’t care. You need to be cut, shit.”

“Mama, don’t snitch on me. Why would you do your favorite son like that?” he questioned.

“I don’t have no favorite son. I love you all just the same.”

“Yeah right. You know the kid is your favorite,” he said cockily.

“Listen, I'm done having this conversation with you. Get your shit together, Dinero, and I'm not playing,” Rochelle warned as she fixed him a plate of spaghetti.

“I will, Ma. I promise.”

Although Rochelle had just given Dinero a speech about staying away from Cadence, he still found himself ringing her doorbell. She had begged him all morning to come by and see her new place and Dinero hesitantly agreed. Seconds
