Remain Teachable

Jesus offered the clearest portrait of the Times-Two Rule. He taught His disciples to grow in understanding. He reproved. He rebuked. All the while, He was connected with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Live by the Times-Two Rule by asking someone to coach you in an arena of your life where you can grow in understanding. Find someone who is wiser than you in that selected discipline. Meet at least once each month to pursue specific areas of improvement.

COOL

Third, Proverbs says that a person with understanding has a cool spirit: “He who restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding” (Prov. 17:27 NASB). Heat expands a conflict; cool contracts it. When conflict escalates, we often lose our cool, which impedes our understanding. The heated anger disrupts our connection with God, interrupts our teachable spirit, and abruptly ends our effective communication with others. Being cool helps us avoid misunderstandings by helping us to remain silent, patient, and on a straight path.
