Sunday morning, Mark was disappointed to see that attendance in church was down. “I thought our first Wheel of the Year might bring in a few new people,” he said to Jim, the usher for the day. “But, apparently not. Where is everybody?”

“Sick, some of ’em,” said Jim. “There’s something going around. Alan’s got it, for one. And there was a lot of coughing at AA yesterday.”

“Maybe the flu season hit early,” said Mark.

“Maybe so. Did you get the flu shot?”

“Yes. You?”

“Nah,” Jim replied. “I always figure, if I’m gonna get it, I’m gonna get it. Know what I mean?”

No, Mark didn’t know what to say to that. “I always just hope the shot helps,” he finally said. “But there’s no way to be sure, really. You just have to trust them, or not.”
