Practice until you are no longer afraid of your symptoms. This type of practice is called exposure, because you are exposing yourself to, or facing, your feared symptoms. During this practice do not try to reduce your anxiety in any way, either through any thinking methods or breathing activities or other relaxation behaviors. Please note any safety behaviors. As you recall, safety behaviors are any actions or rules that you follow that reduce your panic or anxiety sensations. Safety behaviors will interfere with your exposures. It is usually preferable to attempt an easier exposure without the use of a safety behavior, rather than trying a more difficult exposure while engaging in safety behaviors. Trust, that if you have done the work on the panic thinking game prior to this exercise, your anxiety will reduce on its own without help from you – just keep practicing.
