Deny Thyself

“Deny thy self and follow me.”1 This is one of the most difficult principles ever given to us. And perhaps this is one which Christ meant when he said, “I have other things to tell you but you can not bear them now.”2

Deny thy self . What does that mean? Does that not mean what it says? “Cease ye from man whose breath is in his nostrils, for wherein is he to be accounted of.”1 So you see, the principle has been around since Isaiah. He knew it. Deny thy self. “He who loses his life shall find it.”2 Find It. He shall find Eternal Life, that Eternal something that was here before the form. “Deny thy self, take up thy cross and follow Me.”3

So we see that I of myself am nothing . Not a little bit, not a helper, not a partner, not a junior partner, nothing . No thing. Deny thy self . There’s another Self, isn’t there? An Eternal Self, and to know this other Self requires a dying to this false self. This false self has to die and it has to die right here on earth and not later. Not ten years from now. Right now, this moment, deny thy self!

One mystic said, “the Kingdom of Heaven must be realized right where the problem appears to be.” But I say that I am right where you appear to be. “I have many things to tell you but you cannot bear them.”4 At last, in this age, in this time, here in this place you can bear them. To you is given the secret, the ancient of ancients, the secret of secrets. To you this day I am going to give Eternal Life.

You have worked hard and long and you may have started with a religious sense in which you prayed up to God, and out to God, hoping that God would give unto you, bestow unto you, a favor; hoping that God would send you something that you needed to solve one of your problems. Perhaps you progressed from there to metaphysics, in which you learned that you could practice spiritual principles. By practicing spiritual principles you learned about a sort of mind over matter. You could change the outer picture by that vision which you held fast within. Then you progressed, my dear one, and approached the door of mysticism. You opened that door and stepped in. It was there that you communed with the One. The infinite I AM .

Now you must take the next step, Union. Did I not promise you Union? Have I not always promised you Eternal Life? Is there any Eternal Life other than Mine? So you see, you have come to the place where you can hear that Voice which says, “Deny thyself.” Now you must see, now you must feel, now you must realize I, Myself, am Infinite. You must find Consciousness. Where you appear to be, I AM . Impersonalize your self.

Now we know that Christ Consciousness is impersonal .
