SEED IS NOTHING WITHOUT SOIL

Always remember that seed is nothing without soil.

Perhaps an obvious statement, but you would be amazed at how many good people try to flourish outside of being planted. I’m not saying this because I’m a local church pastor with a bias toward loyal church attendance—I’m saying it because it’s a clear instruction within the Word of God that honestly keeps people safe upon the path.

Psalm 92 and Hebrews 10 are foundational verses on this note. Don’t be tempted to switch off here (smile), because I promise you, friend, one of the main reasons our church can testify longevity and blessing on so many fronts is because of a deep revelation of these two chapters alone. Hillsong is not perfect, but she is a beautiful and fruitful vine because at the core of who we are as a body of believers is the revelation that planting is not only important to God but also critical to us as His children.

The book of Hebrews says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering” (Heb. 10:23 ESV). An amazing verse: to hold fast to hope without wavering—wow! We live in a world that is reeling under the weight of hopelessness, a world that is constantly wavering because people don’t know who or what to trust. To possess an unwavering hope will hold you secure upon the path that this entire book is devoted to. The verse continues: “for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (Heb. 10:23–25 ESV).

Never lose sight of the one who is faithful, and take careful notice of the clear and unmistakable instruction about not neglecting to gather to the House of God.

A glorious day is approaching, and I believe that those who recognize this truth and then abide in the planting of His choice for them will be the ones who will remain stable and secure when that day arrives. Of course, that day is somewhat of a mystery. However, the Bible is clear that the times surrounding it will be turbulent. It’s those who are displaced (and not in regular and healthy attendance) who might find those days difficult. Why? Because God knows what it takes to safeguard the human soul. And, of course, Psalm 92 is epic in this regard. Interestingly, it’s named “A Song for the Sabbath.” Therefore, if my love affair with the House of God could teach you anything, I would say discover this psalm and allow wisdom for the journey to be engraved upon your heart.
