As I slid farther down in the driver’s seat of the Toyota Corolla that belonged to the crackhead in my project tower’s lobby, I was glad he loaned his car out for rocks. The ten-dollar spot was well worth it not to be identified by Murk and possibly fuck up what we had. I’d heard what he said earlier, but I knew he did not mean it. We had too much of a history for him not to be in love with me. And what I was doing now wasn’t stalking; it was watching my investment. I surveyed the neighborhood to see who might be watching me. In the hood, there were always bird-watchers and nosy neighbors on the prowl for gossip or an opportunity to snitch. This might not have been my hood, but the same rules were applicable everywhere.

Murk’s house was completely still and quiet. You would not have thought he was inside, but I was crafty with my shit. What was the purpose of being a computer geek if you could not use those skills to your advantage? I had installed a GPS tracker on his phone when he first got it, and it provided me his location points at all times. These Androids were on a business account, so, of course, they had arrived at my house first. He knew nothing about this, of course: the application was installed privately, and he had no way to recognize it. He always thought he was one up on everyone around him, but I wasn’t to be slept on—believe that. Most chicks were juveniles when it came to blowing up their man’s spot. Naw, not me. I moved on a much craftier level.
