At the end of 2012, the Bay Area Entrepreneurs Foundation was rolled into the Community Foundation of Silicon Valley and the momentum around expanding the concept slowed while several of the chapters, including Colorado and Austin, continued to thrive. A working group convened to extend and expand the Entrepreneurs Foundation model, resulting in the creation of a new organization called Pledge 1%.

The founding members of Pledge 1% (The Salesforce Foundation, Atlassian, and Entrepreneurs Foundation of Colorado, along with individuals behind those organizations—Ryan Martens, Marc Benioff, Scott Farquhar, Suzanne Dibianca, and Seth Levine) launched Pledge 1% in 2014. Today, over 6,000 companies around the globe participate.

As of the end of 2019, Pledge 1% Colorado has 295 member companies and has given back over $9.5 million to nonprofits in the Boulder community through the Pledge 1% program.

The activities and events listed here are by no means comprehensive. These activities are continually emerging and evolving. One particular one that has had incredible impact on Boulder is Techstars, a mentor‐driven accelerator that was founded in 2006 by David Cohen. In the next chapter, we'll explore Techstars, its influence on Boulder, and the power of accelerators in general on a startup community.
