“I bet that bump on your dad’s head broke Morgan’s spell over him.” Max shivered. “Good thing she didn’t touch Uncle Nelson.”

“Microscopic algae can produce biotoxins that get passed to humans if they eat shellfish. It can cause tremors, memory loss, even comas,” Rokshar said. “Nelson and Mr. MacInroy didn’t have shellfish. But if it’s a modified type of HAB, maybe there are new ways it can get into the human body. And there could be different symptoms, like hearing singing.” She tilted her head. “Morgan hid when our moms came over. That was suspicious.” Rokshar wrote the information in her journal.

I took out my journal and added:

When Morgan yawned, Nelson’s eyes went glassy. Was she singing, but only he could hear? Plus, after she introduced herself, she tried to pull him into the water. Why? And why wouldn’t she get out of the water?
