This fourteen-floor luxury hotel was built in 1903 and opened in 1908. Towering over the Moore Hotel, it was later purchased by Mr. James A. Moore and renamed the New Washington Hotel. During the Great Depression, the building lost ownership and was left vacant for many years. In 1963, the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle purchased the hotel and converted it into a retirement home. The building was opened up to all low-income citizens in January 1990. The former hotel banquet room still bears its original ornate terra-cotta ceiling and marble wall trim.
