. Chapter 7 .
Control Your Lips
To fully understand the concept of becoming a great public speaker, one has to be receptive to all information obtained and be willing to put it to practice. Public speaking is more than just an act of verbal communication. To be successful at it, you have to utilize and master every aspect of your body language. You have to develop coordination, animation, endurance, gestures, movements, and mannerisms by which a person communicates. All that, and the pressure of having to stand or sit in front of a crowd of strangers to speak, can be overwhelming.
If you are truly dedicated to becoming a great public speaker and want to deliver your speeches without worrying about being able to perform when the time comes, you must learn how to control your respiratory system. When using your voice, you must treat it like you would treat any other tool. If you’re a mechanic who uses a wrench to tighten nuts and bolts, you’re going to want to keep that wrench well-oiled so it won’t get rusty. The same goes for your voice box. Not only do you have to keep it lubricated, you have to know how to have control of your breathing.
To speak properly, you must know and learn how to breathe properly. Your lungs are the force that drives your vocal cords. Anything that goes in or out of your body via the upper region must be pushed by your lungs. Speaking can be an arduous task; in public, it can become very embarrassing for anyone who doesn’t have full control of their breathing. Knowing how to breathe correctly is the key to speaking with confidence and fluency.
You must learn about your respiratory system and how to navigate it in order to speak fluidly. A lot of people who have a problem with speaking in public will get to a certain point in their presentation and begin to feel choked up, sweaty, nervous, at a loss for words. You might even see them turn red in the face as they stand in front of a crowd. This is usually due to a lack of control over their breathing.
As a public speaker, you should make it your business to master your breathing. It can help to cleanse and purify your inner respiratory system. This system is the highway that your voice travels through whenever you need to get a message across. If you want your message to arrive clearly and accurately without any forms of interference, you have to make sure your highway is free of possible obstructions and pollutions. Be careful with what you put into your body. If you are filling up your respiratory system with all kinds of toxic chemicals, you will cause it to malfunction.
Once your respiratory system malfunctions, it will effect your; nasal passages, larynx, trachea, veins, arteries, bronchus, esophagus, throat, and when all of those systems are effected your ability to speak will deteriorate or completely shut down. Can you imagine
