Indirect Commands

Indirect commands are expressed by Que (“Let”) and the third person singular and plural present subjunctive:

Que prepare Elena el postre. Let Elena prepare the dessert.

Que hablen (ellos). Let them speak.

Que no lo vean. Let them not see it.

Que se acueste temprano. Let him go to bed early.

There are two ways to express “Let us” or “Let’s”:

Use vamos a + infinitive (or noun) in the affirmative or no vayamos a + infinitive (or noun) in the negative:

Vamos a jugar a la pelota. Let’s play ball.

Vamos al banco. Let’s go to the bank.

No vayamos a sentarnos. Let’s not sit down.

No vayamos al cine. Let’s not go to the movies.

Use the nosotros form of the subjunctive:
