ROBERT FROSCH, STATEMENT TO CONGRESS (JANUARY 26, 1978)

In this statement to the Committee on Science and Technology in the House of Representatives, NASA Administrator Robert Frosch looks at the far future of NASA’s work. He mentions the benefit of the Space Shuttle program that was in testing, and also foretells the International Space Station, the Hubble telescope, and the growth of the internet. Just 10 days earlier, on January 16, NASA had announced its first class of astronauts since 1969; this class included the first female astronauts. Split into pilots and mission specialists, these would be the astronauts who would fly the Space Shuttle.
