“Is it me or does teach have something up his ass?” I hear one of the other students sneer, and I fight to keep from rolling my eyes.

“He’s definitely pissy about something. He’s never pushed us this hard before.” Another one answers with a groan.

“Alright, get into groups of four based on skillset,” he barks out, making everyone groan. “Harleigh, I need you up here with me.” I look at the guys as I stand up, and shrug my shoulders before heading over to the side of the gym where Mark is waiting for me.

“You needed to see me?”

He nods. “I need to talk to you about training.” He gives me a hard look.

“What about it?” I ask.

He sighs. “I need to work on training you one-on-one outside of class.”

I take a step back from him.

“I’m not meeting with you alone,” I state and he nods.

“Fine. Bring Brian, but the others need to stay back. It’s going to be too dangerous for them to be around.” That really doesn’t sound enticing, but he continues. “Brian is your assigned angel. He’s more prepared for what you have to go through. I hope.”

“You’re not making a good case for yourself with this. Why can’t I just learn in class like everyone else?” I snap a little.

“Because you’re not like everyone else, Harleigh.” A look of frustration floats across his face before he masks it. “You’re too powerful to train with them. I will explain more to you and Brian when you meet me tonight. Just trust me.”

Pfft trust Lucifer’s son? Fat chance of that shit happening.

“Don’t even go there, Harleigh. Just be here after class. It’s not a request,” he grinds out before walking off back toward the groups of other students practicing their powers, as I stand here shell shocked.

“What the hell was that about?” Colten comes up beside me, the other guys close behind.

“Apparently, I have to train one-on-one with him after class. Alone.” I avoid their eyes as Colt curses, and Orion says no.

“Bry is allowed to be with me, but apparently, it’s too dangerous for you guys to be there.” I shrug my shoulders to try and hide how weird I feel about all of this, but I don’t think I fool them for a second.

“Let me guess. He only agreed to Brian being there because he’s assigned to you?” Orion questions, and I nod. “I don’t like him, Harleigh. He’s hiding something.”

“I know,” I croak out. “He said he would explain more tonight when we meet him. I guess we will get answers then?”

Orion scowls at Mark while Colt pulls me into a hug with my back against his chest, so Bry can stand in front of me.

We get some odd looks from the students from time to time, but no one really has the balls to say anything to us. I think it’s because Colten is a legacy and no one dares question him, but the looks are uncomfortable sometimes.

We barely hang out with anyone except our group right now, with the occasional drop in from Darren.
