Everyone at school was curious about the baby too.

“Is the baby born yet?” asked Miss Rao, Sona’s teacher.

“Not yet,” said Sona.

“She doesn’t know if it’ll be a boy or a girl,” said Joy to Miss Rao.

“The doctor is not allowed to say,” said Miss Rao. “You can only find out when the baby is born.”

“A suspense!” said Renu.

“Amma is finding boy names and I’m helping Appa find girl names.”

“That’s a big job,” said Joy.

“I have an idea,” said Renu.

During morning break, Sona, Joy, and Renu trooped to the library.

“Listen to this,” said Renu, reading from Great Women of India. “Ismat, Kamala, Kamini.”

Sona liked Ismat and she wrote it down. Then Sona found five more names in the comic books:

◆ Jhansi fought in a battle.

◆ Ahilya was a wise queen.

◆ Amrita was a painter.

◆ Anasuya was a leader.

◆ Captain Prem was a pilot.

In total, Sona had six names. “I think Appa will be happy with this list,” she said.
