RAVEN
I didnât feel much like opening my eyes when surrounded by such warmth and security. Even though Iâd hoped last night would end differently, it had still been amazing. Falling asleep in Calebâs arms had given me an incredible nightâs sleep. One filled with dreams of what our future would be. So long as he felt the same way I did. I thought he did, or hoped, anyway. Heâd certainly acted like it yesterday.
It baffled me that Iâd fallen in love with him so fast. But then again, it was Christmas. Miracles happened at Christmas.
âI can feel you smiling,â Caleb murmured sleepily before burying his face in my hair and inhaling deeply. âDamn, you smell so delicious.â
Our dreamy moment was interrupted when my landline began to ring. I sighed and reluctantly climbed off the couch, walking over to the end table across the room, next to my comfy reading chair. It was probably my parents calling to check in. I had a phone like this to ensure I could be in touch with the Inn should I get stuck. My parents still had theirs from before I was born, and it also came in handy to reassure them I was alright.
Cammie didnât have one in her cabin, but she usually popped into mine to check in. That reminded me that I hadnât heard from her. She was often called out to the slopes to treat someone, and it worried me that she might have found herself stuck. Iâd have to find Gavin, the head of the ski patrol, and see if he could reach her on the radio. Hopefully, if she wasnât in her cabin, she was at least hunkered down in one of the supply shacks.
I picked up the old-school cordless receiver and hit the button to answer it. âHello?â
âGood morning!â Colin greeted me in a suspiciously high voice. He sounded a bit too cheerful.
âWhatâs wrong?â
âWhy would you ask that?â
âBecause you sound like someone wrapped tinsel around your Christmas balls and made you a soprano.â
âThereâs an image,â Caleb snorted.
âI take it you havenât tried to leave your cabin yet?â
âNo,â I answered, moving to the window to look outside. The snow was still coming down fast and heavy, making it hard to see anything. âWe just woke up.â
âOh, reeeeeally. Thatâs interesting,â Colin teased.
I lowered my voice and grumbled, âWatch it, Ferguson, or Iâll spike your hot chocolate with pure ginger.â
âMore on that later,â he said quickly.
I grinned smugly. The last time I needed retribution for something, Iâd put powdered ginger in his drink. A lot. In that concentration, it had the opposite effect on the stomach than its usual purpose. And, he hated the taste of ginger. Plus, Iâd just given him a super spicy jelly bean, so heâd gulped the liquid before he even realized what it was. As a result, heâd walked around all day with a loudly gurgling stomach, accidentally farting from time to time. Heâd been so embarrassed; I finally had to let him go home early.
