Write a little poem. That is, write a poem of ten lines or fewer. If you normally write long poems, do so in the first draft. Then, start deleting lines.
POETIC FORMS OF TEN OR FEWER LINES
Earlier I mentioned several three-line poetic forms, but there are so many more at various lengths that are ten or fewer lines. Here are a few examples:
• Gwawdodyn—four lines
• Limerick—five lines
• Shadorma—six lines
• Rondelet—seven lines
• Triolet—eight lines
• Nonet—nine lines
• Dizain—ten lines
