Chapter Eighteen

ZACK BOUNCED into Cimarron’s kitchen, tickled as a pig in shit. “Jagi? I got the job! I start two weeks from Monday.”

“No shit?” Cimarron was doing bills, cute little round glasses on his nose, rubbing his chest. “Rock on, honey. Tell me all.”

“It’s that holistic place down by the plaza. I’m teaching yoga and Pilates, and they’ll let me use the space two days a week for private clients.”

“Oh, I used to love Pilates back in the day.”

He could totally see that. “So I’m stoked. The money is actually really good.”

“Congratulations.” Cimarron smiled at him, the look warm and fond.

“Thanks. Did you eat lunch?” Cimarron had a bizarre relationship with food.

“I didn’t. Did you?”

“Nope. I can make us some tacos real quick.” Zack had found Cimarron would eat almost anything on a tortilla.

“Okay. If you want to.” Right. Not that Cimarron paid attention or bought exactly what he needed.

“Cool.” He bent down, one hand on the back of Cimarron’s chair, and took a kiss. “We still on for riding?”

“Yessir. Sugar is needing some exercise. I thought we’d go out and look at the fences on the mountainside.”

“I get to ride fence?” His dad would be so proud. Such a Texan thing, and he’d never done it. “That’s so cool.”

“I think you’re ready. We’ll take it easy.”

“Woo. I’ll get us some lunch while you finish up?”

“Sounds good. Just paying bills.”

“Holler if you need me.” He headed to the kitchen, which was as familiar as breathing now. Hell, his toothbrush and kit bag as well as most of his clothes lived at Cimarron’s now. He only paid lip service to staying at Josh and Kris’s.

The one night he’d stayed over there, Cimarron had been in the bed when he’d woken up, holding him close.

He grinned at the thought of Kris’s face when Cimarron joined them at breakfast. Cimarron had brazened it out, though, and Zack had taken his place in Cimarron’s bed.

The riding… well, it was going okay, but he was frustrated that it didn’t come naturally to him. He was used to being immediately good at all things physical, but horses were a whole new ballgame.

Horses had wills and brains and ideas all their own. Cimarron rode like he was one with the horse, like he was born to it.

“I want to take you to meet my folks before we fly out to Austin.” The words shocked the hell out of him, coming right by his side.

He damn near cut his finger off chopping the onion he held. “Yeah? I can do that. They’re in Albuquerque?”

“Yessir. We can spend the night down there and save the long drive to the airport.”

“Works for me.” The parents. Wow. Of course, Cimarron was going to meet his mom and dad in Austin. “What are they like?”

“Cowboys. They have a littler place now. Alpacas near Corrales. They’re having a ball. Mama’s doing fancy custom yarn.”

“Oh, wow. That’s too cool. I get to meet the alpacas, right?” He loved llamas, had met some in Austin, so why not alpacas?

“Sure.
