Chapter Eighteen
ZACK BOUNCED into Cimarronâs kitchen, tickled as a pig in shit. âJagi? I got the job! I start two weeks from Monday.â
âNo shit?â Cimarron was doing bills, cute little round glasses on his nose, rubbing his chest. âRock on, honey. Tell me all.â
âItâs that holistic place down by the plaza. Iâm teaching yoga and Pilates, and theyâll let me use the space two days a week for private clients.â
âOh, I used to love Pilates back in the day.â
He could totally see that. âSo Iâm stoked. The money is actually really good.â
âCongratulations.â Cimarron smiled at him, the look warm and fond.
âThanks. Did you eat lunch?â Cimarron had a bizarre relationship with food.
âI didnât. Did you?â
âNope. I can make us some tacos real quick.â Zack had found Cimarron would eat almost anything on a tortilla.
âOkay. If you want to.â Right. Not that Cimarron paid attention or bought exactly what he needed.
âCool.â He bent down, one hand on the back of Cimarronâs chair, and took a kiss. âWe still on for riding?â
âYessir. Sugar is needing some exercise. I thought weâd go out and look at the fences on the mountainside.â
âI get to ride fence?â His dad would be so proud. Such a Texan thing, and heâd never done it. âThatâs so cool.â
âI think youâre ready. Weâll take it easy.â
âWoo. Iâll get us some lunch while you finish up?â
âSounds good. Just paying bills.â
âHoller if you need me.â He headed to the kitchen, which was as familiar as breathing now. Hell, his toothbrush and kit bag as well as most of his clothes lived at Cimarronâs now. He only paid lip service to staying at Josh and Krisâs.
The one night heâd stayed over there, Cimarron had been in the bed when heâd woken up, holding him close.
He grinned at the thought of Krisâs face when Cimarron joined them at breakfast. Cimarron had brazened it out, though, and Zack had taken his place in Cimarronâs bed.
The riding⦠well, it was going okay, but he was frustrated that it didnât come naturally to him. He was used to being immediately good at all things physical, but horses were a whole new ballgame.
Horses had wills and brains and ideas all their own. Cimarron rode like he was one with the horse, like he was born to it.
âI want to take you to meet my folks before we fly out to Austin.â The words shocked the hell out of him, coming right by his side.
He damn near cut his finger off chopping the onion he held. âYeah? I can do that. Theyâre in Albuquerque?â
âYessir. We can spend the night down there and save the long drive to the airport.â
âWorks for me.â The parents. Wow. Of course, Cimarron was going to meet his mom and dad in Austin. âWhat are they like?â
âCowboys. They have a littler place now. Alpacas near Corrales. Theyâre having a ball. Mamaâs doing fancy custom yarn.â
âOh, wow. Thatâs too cool. I get to meet the alpacas, right?â He loved llamas, had met some in Austin, so why not alpacas?
âSure.
