“It’s Anika,” she says.

There is some muffling and then the phone suddenly goes dead.

I just know that this muthafucka is not going to wait until we are only days away from the wedding to start acting a complete ass with me! He must have been getting mentored on being a scandalous ass pastor, when he was following Bishop! But he just doesn’t know . . . I will fuck him up, while he is trying to play with my heart.

It only takes me ten minutes to change into a statement dress and heels. It then takes me another thirty minutes to park on the Eddison land. Gabe’s truck is there sure enough. It is kind of cool out, as the sun has just set.

I ring the doorbell, as if I am serving a warrant. Imagine my surprise when Gabe answers the door and instead of leading me inside, he pushes me out.

“Gabe, what in the hell is going on?”

“When did you start using that kind of language?”

He looks surprised.

“My language is the last thing that you should be worried about right now!”

“My God mother passed away, for Pete’s Sake Anika. I’m just having a hard time dealing with the grief.”

He seems as if he is proud of his lame ass answer.

“Well according to all of the pre-marital counseling that we’ve had- this is something that we should tackle together, not independently.”

“I know, Sweetheart. I just want to enjoy my family right now. I don’t want to worry about the church, this collar, the word, the ministry- anything right now.”

He is lying his ass off.

“Even me, huh?”

He walks me back to my car the front door is opened again.

“Gabe, sweetheart is everything ok?”

“Yea, I’ll be back inside in a minute.” His voice is shaky.

Everything in me tells me he is foul. No matter how I try to position my body he won’t allow me to see who came to the door.

“Well, I can speak to Mother Eddison for a while.”

“I think she is being pulled in every direction right now. It will not do you or her any good right now.”

I don’t know this Gabe. He looks back at the house before he tries to pull me into a hug. I am not feeling him. I walk to my car alone and then I drive off in tears.
