(b) The phase introduced by the first gradient pulse is canceled by a second one applied with opposite current. Therefore the phase distribution at the end of each evolution period is identical to the one obtained in the CPMG sequence. By doing so no spatial information must be preserved from echo to echo and the high performance of the CPMG sequence to generate a long echo decay is preserved
