"Try less," I retorted.

She paused and gradually exhaled. "Do you realize what you're even doing right now -- who you're actually involving yourself with? The fact that you are letting that old thug into your house like this -- as if he owns it or will soon -- allowing him to rummage through your fridge, acting like you're his woman already; why the hell are you letting him?"

"Why the hell does it bother you so much that I do?"

"Because like I told you and him just now, I've seen how women can get caught up with a man like him; I've seen the results of just accepting how he is, letting someone like that run all over you."

"He is not going to 'run all over me', Tara, and I like what I know and have seen of him so far."

"You sound absolutely crazy -- absolutely ridiculous! You like him because he makes you wet, and that's it! This is absolutely unreal," she said, her tone full of disbelief and disgust as her eyes seemed to spin around inside her head. "Completely unreal -- You like him -- you LIKE him, REALLY? A THUG, Savannah -- he is a THUG. I don't care how good the sex might be--"

"I haven't slept with him yet."

"GOOD! And you shouldn't! At least you have SOME senses left!" She stopped and looked to the floor. "You know, I wasn't going to say anything after knowing that he was here, but--"

"When the hell did you even get here?" I piqued. "And where the hell did you park your car?"

"Down the street. There was a moving van blocking the driveway and I've been here since 6am."

"Jeez."

"Anyway, that co-worker I told you about yesterday who used to deal with guys just like this down in Florida? I asked her to look up a few things on the men within that 'club' in the hope of passing it along to keep you aware of what you were really dealing with out there. And after seeing that wretched name on him -- what the hell kind of name is 'Silver Tongue' anyway? -- I realized that he's the leader of their 'pack', right?" I remained silent. She pressed her lips into a hard line that quickly turned red and swallowed. "You've been completely sucked in already," she muttered, rolling her eyes away from me again. "Jesus, Savannah." She sighed and pointed across the room. "That thug out there has been arrested so many times since he was eighteen years old that he has a rap sheet longer than the length and width of the entire city of Memphis alone; from murder to conspiracy to commit it against a police officer of all people, to theft and even kidnapping a young woman, and--"

"Kidnapping?"

"Yes, Savannah, kidnapping a young woman that they later found chained to a fence, dead. She was practically gutted like a fish and set on fire, and he was eventually arrested for that too. They labeled it as a possible hate crime.
