“Are you waiting for Jacqueline?” Shawn asked Cleopatra.

“Why would you say something like that?”

“You refuse to fall in love with Kenya, still.” Shawn was in Cleopatra’s bedroom with her as she put on her half heart.

“You are putting the necklace on. You still have it?”

“Of course I do. I wear it when I'm not with Kenya.”

“And you don't see anything wrong with that? So, the necklace, and the fact that Kenya thinks that the sex room is your actual bedroom and your bedroom is a desolate guest room. You don’t see a problem?”

“I’m not sharing that bed with anyone.”

“Anyone but Jacqueline, you mean? You are still hanging on to her.”

“I'm not.”

“Then why the necklace?”

“I promised never to take it off.”

“Wow. Not cool, man.”

“So, can we change subjects? You’ve never said what you really think about Kenya.”

“She’s insecure, jealous, a bit needy, obsessive, analyzes the shit out of things and has abandonment issues, but besides that, she’s cool.”

“You’re harsh.” Cleopatra scowled at her.

“You asked. She’s no Jacqueline.”

“That’s low. Are you done?” She glared at Shawn.

“Seriously, if you don’t love her, you need to end it. What’s wrong with admitting you’re still in love with Jacqueline? She was your first real love. It’s not supposed to be easy to get over.”

“Go in my closet and grab the Timberland boot box all the way in the back on the top shelf.”

“This one?” Shawn came out of the closet with an old, tattered shoe box.

“Yeah. Open it.” Shawn opened the box full of handwritten letters. Some were opened, some were not. “Those are all from Jacqueline. She’s written me at least twice a week since we broke up.”

“Have you written her back?”

“No reason to. Nothing to say.”

“What do you mean nothing? You still love her, tell her. Is she still married?”

“I don’t know. I haven’t opened a letter in months. She wrote that the process of writing me made her feel closer to me. They were mostly how much she loves and misses me.”

“All this time neither one of you has let go. That means something, don’t you think?”

Cleopatra and Kenya had been back together for two months, but the wall was still up. Kenya tried to be her superwoman, unaware that Cleopatra already had one and was still in love with her. It bothered Kenya that she wouldn’t discuss her previous relationships, especially her last one. Kenya asked Shawn about Cleopatra’s past.

“So, what went down with Cleopatra's last girl? Who was she and why did it end?”

“Why are you asking me?” Shawn asked, annoyed.

“Cleopatra doesn't want to talk about it.”

“Well, she must not want you to know, so it’s not my place to say.”

After that Kenya was even more insecure than before. She was determined to break through to Cleopatra. Even though she had her physically, Kenya knew her heart didn’t belong to her. She wanted it and would do anything to get it. She craved an intimacy with Cleopatra that she seemed unwilling or maybe just incapable of giving her.
