Chapter Thirteen

RAVEN

I wasn’t sure what to expect as we descended in the elevator from Saints nightclub into the dark depths of Sinners. Cole had suggested we pause at the bar in Saints for a couple of drinks first, but I was afraid I’d lose my nerve if we stopped before getting there. Unknown to Cole, I’d done a little research into sex clubs on my new phone, and so far, what I’d found was intimidating to say the least. Humans dressed up in all manner of costumes that didn’t look comfortable in the slightest, and clubs were built in warehouses with partition walls that didn’t reach the actual ceiling and cheap pleather sofas. I wondered if my current outfit of a pencil skirt and silk blouse was going to fit in at Sinners, or whether I should have asked Lily if she could lend me something in PVC. I needn’t have worried.

As soon as the elevator doors slid open, I realized my mistake. I’d forgotten to take into account that this sex club would be different for two reasons. One, it catered to supernaturals as well as humans, and two, it belonged to Cole, and everything Cole did screamed luxury. The first thing that hit me was the scent. It was a mix of sandalwood and jasmine, a heady combination that made me feel like I was walking into a spa rather than a sex club. The space was vast, with high ceilings and low lighting that cast everything in a soft glow. The décor was opulent with rich red velvet curtains, black and gold wallpaper, and plush leather and velvet sofas. The walls were adorned with art that looked like it belonged in a museum rather than a sex club, though there was an erotic theme to each piece, and a wide bar stood at the other end of the room, providing all manner of cocktails and spirits. Around the room were tables that held jugs of iced water and a supply of elegant glasses. I imagined what went on down here made people rather thirsty.

It was fairly busy, and I felt a pang of excitement mixed with apprehension as we moved deeper into the club. Cole led us to a table near the back of the room, and I couldn’t help but notice the way all eyes were on him as we walked past. Even in his wheelchair, he exuded power and confidence. Alastor followed behind us, his hand resting on the small of my back. I could feel his warmth through my blouse, and I tried to ignore the way my skin tingled at his touch.

Cole looked up at Alastor. “The Devil’s Playroom?”

Alastor just grinned, a sight that added to my trepidation as a faint red gleam appeared in his eyes.

“Cole, I might need a drink or two after all,” I said, laying my hand on his shoulder. He laid his on top and gave my fingers a gentle squeeze.

“Anything you want, Raven.”

“I’ll get the drinks and meet you at the playroom,” Alastor said, dropping his hand from my back.
