CHAPTER FIFTEEN

The heat from desiring Quinn slowly burned her from the inside out. It started soon after their first meeting and hadn’t stopped. Every touch, every movement, and the memory of those kisses had her quaking each time he glanced her way. One week had passed, and this afternoon seemed to slowly tick by in companionable silence.

They had studied until they couldn’t study anymore. They’d been on walks, had picnics, spent more time together than any couple should, but the worst part is she enjoyed the seclusion with him. Quinn made her laugh with his nonstop flirtation and shocked her with his intelligence and knowledge. She’d misjudged him and it broke her heart. Each detail he shared brought them closer together. The blood raced in her veins just being near him. The smoldering looks and witty banter kept her in a state of heightened arousal.

So far, she’d avoided physical entanglement with him, besides a few kisses, but his raw sexuality had her on edge. He slept on the couch and gave her the bed, which was its own torture. His scent teased her night after night, and knowing he was a few steps away was more temptation than any woman could take. He never pushed, but every brush of his fingertips, and every flirty smile made her completely aware of how much she wanted him. He was like cocaine to her drug-starved system. The woman inside purred under his heated gazes and attention.

When her stomach loudly growled, he announced he would cook, laid his book aside, and sauntered into the small kitchen area. Allison rolled her eyes to the ceiling. He catered to her every need, spoiling her rotten in the process. Sometimes at night, he’d read to her from his extensive collection of books, and in those moments, she tumbled head over heels in love with him. The timbre of his voice relaxed her in a way no one ever had. Several times she’d fallen asleep against his shoulder and woke snuggled into his side. There were a thousand charming qualities about Quinn and each one called to her.

Darkness crept over the forest and hoot owls called somewhere outside as he opened the refrigerator and began gathering supplies. She hated to cook, so it was fine if he assumed control in the kitchen, and it gave her another opportunity to study him. After sliding onto a stool at the small island, she dropped her chin in her hands to admire the striking picture he presented.

Auburn hair lay haphazardly on his shoulders in waves, and his firm ass caused her insides to bunch into knots. Somewhere along the way, he’d unbuttoned his gray shirt and it hung open to reveal a sculpted chest sprinkled in darker hair. She shifted in her seat when he tossed a blue and white, checkered kitchen towel over his shoulder, glanced at her, and smiled. Now barefoot, he chopped carrots and celery on a butcher block, gathered them in his large hands, then tossed them in a pot, along with noodles and chicken.
