Afterward, as they lay spoon-fashion in her bed, Reis was at a loss of how to rein in his reeling emotions. Had there ever been a single female in all his harem-hopping days that moved him like the firebrand currently in his arms? Not bloody likely.

He knew the implications of what he’d done…and planned to do again. It was still unbelievable. What should he do? Or say?

“So what’s the deal with that white thing in the front of your head?” he asked. The warm, pliant body curled in front of him stiffened.

Idiot.

Jovon’s neck did a funky little swivel thing. Wow, he’d been unaware a neck could move that way. The woman turned and pinned him with a glare hot enough to melt ice—so not good—as she pushed up on one elbow.

“First off,” she growled quietly, “there is no thing in the front of my head. It’s simply a shock of white hair. All the women in my family have it. Bastard.”

“That’s not what I meant.” With her yeah-right expression pinning him to the sheets, Reis made quick work of putting his thoughts into clearer words. Too bad he hadn’t just kept his mouth shut. Then again, he found it enjoyable to spar with this woman. Yes, he was demented.

“I happen to like your hair. It’s always perfectly styled, like those fashion models.” As he spoke, he trailed his fingers up smooth, muscled thigh. “Speaking of models, you may not be very tall, but your body is perfect. Ever thought about getting into that business?”

Reis hid a grin. He could really get used to that little sound she made in the back of her throat when he skimmed his fingers over the fleshy globes of her backside.

She took a swift intake of breath. “You’re just trying to change the subject, damn it.”

But there was no heat to her words, just a seductive, wispy quality. A sound Reis vowed to hear often.

“I said I like your hair. It’s sassy and curly, silky and rough at the same time. None of the rest of your family wears the style?”

“No,” she sighed, snuggling in. “Just me and my Uncle Kenoe. In fact, he put my locs in for me several years ago after I got tired of trying to make my curly, kinky hair do stuff it was never meant to.”

“Like what?” he asked, genuinely curious.

“Like be straight.”

Then they lay in companionable silence while he enjoyed being with her, touching her.

Then something she’d said stuck out in Reis’s mind. “Wait, did you say Uncle Kenoe?” At her nod, he asked, “Kenoe Hatsept, the elite Seeker is your uncle?”

“Yep.”

“He and I are pretty close in age. And you?”

“I’m a bit younger than you two, but I’m wiser so I’ll still tell you to get in line, whippersnapper. Bow down, boy!”

“Sorry, sweetness, but you don’t get to pull that card. That only works with Serati females, thank God.” Damn, he’d done it again—made her worry when he’d just been joking. Her thoughts lashed at him and he tried not to listen.
