You might not know that Domino Day falls on November 15. On that day in 2008, the Weijers Domino Productions team set a world record.[21] They triggered a chain reaction toppling 4,345,027 dominoes.

Records within the record included:

Longest domino spiral (200 meters)

Highest domino climb (12 meters)

Longest domino wall (16 meters)

Largest domino structure (25,000 stones)

Largest rectangular level domino field (1 million stones)

The production team actually set up 4.5 million dominos, but due to accidental gaps, over 100,000 dominoes didn’t fall.

A sophisticated rigging system allowed builders to “fly” above their work-in-progress. This permitted a bird’s-eye view of the project, and provided easy access within the complex structure.

As part of construction, the builders used “safeties.” Safeties consisted either of gaps in the line of dominoes or of physical barriers. That way if a domino toppled by accident, the whole project didn’t have to start over.[22]

Spacing meant everything. A 2009 attempt to break the record failed when a number of stones were set too far apart to topple their sections.

Is a domino building career in your future? The production company periodically hires new builders. The main requirements are “steady hands, infinite patience, immunity to stress, and being able to concentrate for long periods of time.”[23] Do you qualify?

What looks like God’s forgetfulness may just mean that your section of the cosmic domino project hasn’t toppled yet.
