Chapter 6

Linda and Charlize set in the cafeteria, both nursing a cup of coffee. The formalities were out of the way and now it was time to get down to business concerning their babies.

“Linda, I don’t know about you but I can see the love that those two have for each other. My son just…..I don’t know. He always seems to get in his own way instead of talking things out. In his mind, he really believes that he is helping the situation when in all actuality he’s damaging it.” She paused to take a sip of her now warm coffee. “He told me that he wanted to ask her to marry him,” she stated staring off into her coffee.

“Charlize, I know he loves her. I can tell by his actions. He calls me to make sure that I’m ok since I live by myself. Janae just has so much of her daddy ways about her. I don’t blame her though. She’s only had one other real relationship and it ended with her being hurt pretty badly.” Linda stated while still holding on to her cup. “There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for her now.”

“Is that the other fellow that was involved? What was his name, James?” Charlize questioned.

“His name is Jace and yes that’s him. They dated for four years and were even engaged. That is until his baby mama and fiancée showed up the day before they graduated. She called herself surprising him but they both got one. Nae stayed the day of graduation and the next morning she left and never looked back.” Linda recalled as she took a sip of her now almost cold coffee. “Ughhh, this ain’t no mo good,” she chuckled. “How long have we been down here nursing these cups? Yours also still looks full.”

“I’m not sure. Linda, what are we going to do about our babies?”

Linda glanced at Charlize and stood before she replied, “We’re going to stay out of their way and let them figure this out on their own. Now come on, let’s go and make sure that they’re not trying to make us grandparents.” Charlize laughed and nodded her head with understanding as the two new friend’s sauntered arm in arm back to the hospital room.

When they entered the room, Janae was lying beside Reason wrapped in his arms and they were both knocked out. Charlize and Linda looked at each other and smiled. It was one of the sweetest images of the two together that they had seen. Gently as she could, Linda shook Janae to try and wake her without disturbing Reason. It took several tries before she succeeded. As Janae tried to ease out of Reasons embrace, he stirred and held on tighter. Seeing no other way around it, she woke him up so that he would release her.

After saying their goodbyes with hugs around the room, Linda and Janae made their way to the car. It was a silent journey with both of them lost in their thoughts.
