Miracle

I’m a sexual compulsive, and I’m so ashamed of my behavior. I went to church looking for magic. I’m understanding that a miracle is not magic!

When I’m giving my spiritual lectures I often draw the distinction between magic and miracle.

Magic is a trick. In Las Vegas, we might see magicians make animals disappear. I’ve seen women sawn in half! But the next night it’s the same animal and the same women in the show. How do they do it?The magicians use lights or mirrors to create an illusion—but it’s not real.

Miracle is real. It requires a change in the individual addict, an action that can be clearly, visibly demonstrated. The sex addict establishes a personal boundary, changes behavior, attends therapy and support meetings. A sex addict must do something to experience healing and recovery.

A helpful saying in recovery meetings is “Pray—but also move your feet!”

Great Spirit, I embrace the action

that creates the miracle.
