Ava and I sit close together on her plush, beige sofa. The scent of her lavender-scented candles fills the air, enveloping us in a comforting embrace. We each cradle a steaming cup of tea, our fingers wrapped around the mugs.

"Your tea is always so delicious," I say, taking a sip of chamomile and honey that warms my insides.

"Thanks, Carol. It's grandma's recipe."

My heart clenches, reminding me of the real reason I'm here. I glance down at the swirling liquid in my mug, trying to find the right words. "Ava, I have to tell you something. I met someone interesting."

"Really?" She perks up, her eyes shining with excitement. "Tell me everything!"

My heart flutters in my chest like an anxious bird, and I feel my cheeks grow warm. "His name is Mateo, and he's... different. I don't know how to explain it, but there's just something about him that draws me in."

"Sounds intriguing," Ava coaxes me on, her smile encouraging. "What's holding you back?"

"He's so much older than me. I don't know if it's a good idea." The words escape me in a rush, as though they've been waiting to be said. My fingers trace the rim of my teacup, lost in thought.

"Age is just one aspect of who we are, Amelia," Ava continues. "If you truly believe there's something special between you and Mateo, don't let his age stand in your way."

Her encouraging words echo in my mind, battling against the doubts that have taken root there. My mind is a whirlwind of uncertainty and conflicting emotions, torn between what I want and what I think society expects of me.

"Maybe you're right, Ava. I should give him a chance," I say hesitantly, my confidence returning ever so slightly.

"Take a chance on love. You won't know unless you try."

I take a deep breath and nod, feeling the weight of my decision settle in my chest. "I'm going to do it. I'm going to see where this goes." The conviction in my voice surprises me. Having Ava's support gives me courage about the situation.

Silently, I realize I hold many more fears than I knew. Mateo's right. Why should I worry what others think? They can't live my life for me. Only I can do that.

Her words echoed in my mind, feeling the weight of the decision before me. It was true that love was never without its risks. And perhaps the key
