Zyon had wanted to leave the party and go to his room, but I convinced him we needed to follow through with his agreement with the queen. Reluctantly, he followed me back outside.

“Stop looking so sulky,” I teased.

“We could be having more fun in our room if you weren’t so stubborn,” Zyon growled against my ear.

I shivered in delight at his husky voice. “I promise we will later.”

Kelsey appeared at my side and linked her arm through mine. “Oh, good! You two finished your adult nap time just in time to eat!”

My entire body blushed. Was it that obvious what we’d been doing?

“Don’t look so embarrassed. Most of the people here think he was feeding from you. Only a few believe you two were polishing the porpoise.”

I honestly wasn’t sure which was worse and decided to pray for the ground to open and swallow me.

The earth must have been ignoring me, because there wasn’t so much as a tremor beneath my feet.

“Come on, Nathan and I saved you a seat across from us.” Kelsey led us through the maze of tables to one right smack in the middle of all the tables.

Every single set of eyes watched us—or, more accurately, watched Zyon. Fizz bubbled up in my throat, and I hiccupped. My chest muscles ached from the near-constant hiccups I’d experienced the past several days.

Just make it through today… I tried to give myself a mental pep talk.

The moment we took our seats at the table, the waitstaff hurried over with trays laden with food. I placed bacon-wrapped figs drizzled with maple syrup, a fresh cucumber salad, and two small finger sandwiches on my plate.

I had to give it to the castle chefs, they created magic in the kitchen. It almost made up for the company I had to deal with while eating.

Focusing on my adorable mini-sandwich, I tried to ignore the vampiresses who kept finding reasons to pass by our table just so they could try to catch Zyon’s attention.

Zyon didn’t even seem to notice their efforts, though. He was deep in a conversation about a vampire friend of Nathan’s who was buying a circus while sneakily trying to slide his hand higher up my thigh beneath the table skirt without me catching on to his movement.

Which was laughable since my skin tingled and warmed every single time Zyon touched me. There was no way I’d miss my body’s reaction to his skin brushing against mine.

“Prince Zyon, have you been on any trips recently?” a woman sitting a couple of seats down from us asked.

Zyon’s fingers tightened imperceptibly on my thigh, but when he spoke, his voice was polite. “I visited Argentina a few months ago. Such a beautiful country.”

She leaned on her hand, her eyes dreamy as he spoke. “It sounds amazing. I’m way past due for a vacation. Maybe you could give me some pointers on where to stay?”

Nathan took a sip of his drink. “Actually, I booked that trip. I’ll have my assistant email you a list of suggestions, Tessa.
