This is the intersection of Castro Street and Twenty-fourth Street as it appears today. The colorful cable cars were removed from the Castro Street line, which is now served by the Municipal Railway’s Number 24 Divisadero electric bus. The Number 24 continues for several miles past the old cable car turntable that was four short blocks south of this point. (Photo by Bill Yenne.)

Rubberneckers gather to gawk at a collision at the corner of Twenty-fourth Street and Castro Street in the 1920s. The eastbound Number 11 Mission and Twenty-fourth Street electric car (left) apparently struck the southbound Castro Street Cable Car in the intersection. It is interesting to see how similar the electric trolleys were to the cable cars in their basic design. The Number 11 streetcar ran until January 15, 1949. When the line was converted to bus service, it was designated as the Number 11 Hoffman. (Courtesy of the Noe Valley Archives.)
