Chapter 4

One week after the birthday, I heard from the gossip websites that Tyshawn had gotten engaged. Dasia just happen to be the first one to see the information about him and her, and then she called me to tell me. She almost seemed happy to inform me of his great news. That night I just cried and ate ice cream. I thought we were building toward something and I was crushed in that moment. The next day I took Rhyann to Linda’s house for the weekend. She hugged me and asked me how I was doing. I told her I was good and needed to go. She hugged me again and told me she didn’t know anything about the proposal between his and Jasmine. I told her it was ok and left. When I got home, Reese was in my condominium.

I asked her what she was doing there. She told me when she heard about the proposal she cursed at Bishop for not telling her and jumped on the next plane to me because she knew I would need her. She had a jug of ice cream and a good movie for us to talk bad about men and have a girl’s night. I told her I wasn’t in the mood. I couldn’t smile and laugh with her. She hugged me and told me, we could cry. She didn’t want me to fake my feelings. She told me that when she heard about it she went off on Bishop and then hoped on a plane to me. She said Bishop didn’t know it was happening until it happen.

He said that after my mother’s funeral and his mother facing the fact she was getting old she started harassing him about finding someone to settle down with. Tyshawn hadn’t been in anything serious since our divorce. Jasmine had been in his life for two years by now.

Tyshawn had never made it was anything more than casual hooking up but for Jasmine it was more. She had been waiting for him to say he wanted to be in a serious relationship with her the whole time. She never talked about them being in a relationship with anyone and he hadn’t taken her to see his family or anything like that. She never nagged him about the normal girl stuff. She played her part really well and when he told her about Rhyann, she didn’t get upset. She started talking about what they would all do when they first met. She also had a recent pregnancy scare and he told her he didn’t want any more kids. She wasn’t upset but got on birth control.

Tyshawn didn’t think he would find anyone down for him like her. Reese said she was young and didn’t know no better. There was no grown woman who would’ve let that type if stuff fly. I told her I guess that was what he wanted now. Her being there made me feel a little better. When Tyshawn would call, I would put Rhyann on the phone one time.
