“Man, you look nervous.” Seth grins at me, both of our heads buried under the hood of Mr. Stevens’ truck. I haven’t worked on a car in years and it feels good to be back here, helping.

“I am.” I answer back. Even with me being an asshole, Seth hasn’t stopped being my best friend and he knows that tonight I’m meeting my daughter.

“Don’t be, you have nothing to worry about,” he answers with confidence.

“I want her to like me,” I admit. I have never wanted anything more, well besides having Kynsleigh back in my arms. I’m worried that my daughter isn’t going to want anything to do with me.

“She already loves you. She gets excited when she hears your music. She dances and sings to your songs all the time. She loves seeing you on magazines. She points and tells everyone that’s her daddy.”

“That’s different, she’s never seen me in person, what if she’s afraid of me? What if she freaks out? What if she just doesn’t like me?” My voice sounds panicked and freaked.

“Not gonna happen bro, trust me.” Seth moves from under the hood, he grabs a rag to wipe his hands and leans against the car, I do the same.

“It’s not just Lorelai, it’s Kyns too. I’m convinced she’s more beautiful than she was four years ago. I want to win her heart back. She’s the only girl for me, always has been. I hate that I let her down. I fucked up and I want to fix it, I need to. Last night when she was trying to explain a little bit about this mess, my heart broke, her tears still slice through me, but I couldn’t do anything. It’s torture not being able to take her in my arms and make her problems disappear like I use to. I don’t even know if she’d let me try.”

“She will.”

“I don’t know man; four years is a long time. She’s been doing it alone for years, you said she doesn’t let anyone help her. If she doesn’t trust me then I have to try to earn that back, but who knows if she will even let me try.”

“It’s not you she doesn’t trust. It’s herself. I’ve watched her struggle everyday with wanting to contact you, to tell you everything, but she didn’t want to mess things up for you. That’s part of the reason Pop told you to come home. He saw it too. Couldn’t take it anymore, neither of us could watch her torture herself any longer. She needs you Ryk, she always has, and if you can see why she made the decision she did, even comprehend it a little bit, and see how much she truly loves you and your daughter. If you can find it in you to forgive her, then you can win her back. However, this is not something you can throw in her face anytime you get pissed or make her feel like shit for.
