Creak!

I startle awake, ripped from the fucking nightmare that haunts me, and I open my eyes to the moonlight hue carving through the darkness of my bedroom. Heat smothers me, my hair stuck to my head.

But someone’s in my room, and before I move, I draw in a sharp breath, my nostrils flaring.

Honey sweetness.

The faint scent of perspiration.

“Are you going to come in or just linger in the doorway?” I ask.

“Can I join you?” The patter of bare feet on the floorboards approaches the side of my bed, and she’s standing there. My beautiful Eve, darkness clinging to her, but I see her clearly. She’s in a white tee, her nipples pushing against the fabric, and her loose shorts hang low on her hips. Her long blonde hair sits messily over her shoulders. “I’m having trouble sleeping.”

She’s fucking stunning, and every time I stare at her, my body remembers how she feels beneath me, her crying for more. I also remember the darkness in her eyes, the pain in her voice every time she deals with Aris.

My pulse throbs like it always does when she’s near me. I shuffle over in bed and pat the warm spot beside me, trying to concentrate on anything but the reaction my body has to her.

“Thanks.” She slides in under the blankets, her soft body finding me quickly and pressing up against my side, her cold feet tucking themselves under my legs. She’s got her head resting on my arm.

“What’s keeping you up?” I ask. “Are you worried about Aris?”

She nods, and when piercing emerald eyes slide up to mine, they’re full of fear.

Hunger.

Confusion.

I can take her anger and hunger—those I can work with, both ending with me balls deep inside her. But fear and confusion are different, and all the reassurance in the world won’t alleviate those worries. Especially when they’re plaguing me as well.

“I’ve been stirring most of the night too,” I confess. “You woke me from a nightmare that I’m glad to leave behind.”

“Oh yeah. About Aris? I keep seeing his face every time I fall asleep, like he’s taunting me. But I know it’s just my fear.” She presses closer to me and I curl my arm around her back, drawing her closer.

Her breasts press to my side—soft and perky. She invades my personal space, and if it was up to me, I’d have her move into my room and share my bed every night. Except, she wants her space.

“Aris has been on my mind, mostly how we’ll take him out. But tonight, my past haunts me,” I murmur.

“Go on,” she urges, settling in against me, her eyes locked on me like she’s getting ready to listen to a long story.

“I grew up in a brutal world, one where the weak are killed, and the strong must keep proving themselves. It’s been such a damn long time since then, and yet it still haunts my fucking dreams.”

“The fighting?” she asks softly.
