Chapter Twelve

We ate in silence, as I couldn’t even meet his eyes. By the time the meal was over, my back was healed, but not my pride. I was embarrassed. I just sat and looked at the empty plate, trying to decide if I needed to escape or just give-up and be a demon fuck puppet.

“It is strange how hard truths can subdue a spirit. Where is that woman from earlier who’d told me to fuck off?”

“I’m not a woman,” I replied softly. “I’m a demon who needs to drink cum to live.”

“There are worst things to be, and you don’t have to ingest semen. If you’d prefer, just have sex. Your body simply needs to absorb the essence of life.”

“Then why can’t I just let human men come on me?”

“Because it goes beyond the life swimming in the pool, it’s the life source. I am immortal by birth. Humans are not. And elves, though immortal, rarely reproduce with their own kind, much less be willing to come on or inside a demon.”

I twisted my fingers. “The power I have seems so useless. What is the point of making toys in a place with no children?”

The demon smiled. “You tap into magic you know and is comfortable. In time, you will move beyond conjuring toys.”

“Why did you get so mad earlier when I offered you my devotion?”

“I am the oldest and most powerful demon in this realm. I don’t like sharing. I don’t like being denied what I want. And my brothers know this. And they passed you along like a game of keep away. It’s why I forced them to suffer with you.”

“I’m sorry,” I offered.

“That’s the sincerest apology I have ever received. Your human sentiments amuse me.”

“You scared me when we met.” I shrugged. “And everyone was like ‘run, little elf, run’ all the time. They said you would kill me— that all of you would kill me, given the chance.”

“I can assure you that I would never allow you to return to your realm, even if I allow you to live. Life or death doesn’t matter. You will not leave here.”

“You’ve been the meanest demon yet, and for that, I’m grateful.”

“I could kill you now. Would you prefer that?”

“And miss the fun of chasing me down and hurting me over and over again, especially when you know how often I’ll betray you?” I caught myself before I rolled my eyes. “I don’t think so. You wouldn’t want to miss that excitement.”

“There’s that sassy spirit.”

I stood and walked over to the door. I tried to open it, and when it didn’t, I used the magic I supposedly had to do so. And it worked.

“Come back here.”

“No,” I said as I turned around. “I’m going to go find one of your brothers.”

The shift from human form to enraged bull was fucking scary. He roared, and it echoed through his castle.

I offered him my most blasé shrug. “I don’t know what to say, Wrath. May I call you that?” Though my heart was about to beat out of my chest, I checked my nails as if bored.
