Chapter 18

Fallon

I look like an idiot. What was I thinking? I should change. I am changing. I turn to walk back to the closet, and there is a knock at the door.

Dammit!

I look down at myself. I’m wearing the green dress Solstice bought me. Even though I saw him from afar at Thane and Bellicent’s wedding, I still googled the dragon king. He’s rich and sophisticated. Thor lives in the penthouse suite in a large high-rise building on the expensive side of town. He has multiple successful businesses. I’m not sure why, but I had a moment of panic when I thought about meeting him and changed out of my usual jeans and t-shirt and into this.

I’m even wearing the crazy high stilettos and the lipstick. Lollipop Surprise is bright red and out there. I catch my reflection in the mirror. My hair is behaving for once. I’m not sure why. I look pretty good. Why have I gone to so much trouble, though?

The knock sounds again. Shit! Now it’s too late to change.

I take a deep breath and then open the door. It’s Solstice. Who else would it be? He’s wearing leather pants.

Holy shit!

I didn’t think a guy could look good in leather, but I was wrong. The pants fit him like a second skin. Then there’s the tight white t-shirt. It molds all of his muscles. I can even make out his six-pack through the fabric. His tattoos are out in full force. They look good against the white cotton. Then there are his eyes. My mouth has dried up, and yet I’m afraid I might still end up drooling.

Crap! I’m checking him out so hard my eyes are almost watering.

Solstice seems to be checking me out, too, but not in the same way. He’s looking me up and down and frowning. I knew it. I’m overdressed.

“It’s too much, isn’t it?”

“Not at all,” he says. “You look great! I’m glad you’re wearing the clothes I bought you. At least they won’t go to waste.” A practical answer. “Are you going to be able to walk in those?” He lifts his brows.

“I’m better than I was the other day.” I make a face. “I googled Thor and didn’t think I could go in jeans,” I blurt, keeping my eyes on his, even though I want to check him out some more. “Not after finding out all about him. He has ‘dark and brooding’ down pat.”

“Pity he’s such a dick.” Solstice gets this weird look. “I mean, I thought you should know before we head over there. He can be a serious asshole. I wasn’t exaggerating when I told you that yesterday. He’s arrogant and abrupt.”

“Oh! And here I was thinking that maybe I had a shot with him,” I straight-up lie. “The dragon shifter king is a real hottie.” I was just eyeball-fucking Solstice not a minute ago. Maybe this way, he won’t realize how attracted I am to him. Thor doesn’t even come close.

That hug earlier is all I’ve been able to think about.
