The Bitches of Eastwick

Lily’s Rule #41: Never, EVER get directly involved in your

friend’s breakups or reconciliations. NEVER.

I’m in hell. My whole do-the-right-thing-don’t-take-sidessupport-everyone attitude has landed me in the circle of hell that Dante apparently forgot. The circle of hell called “Being in the middle of two gay men trying to save their marriage.”

Bryan and Jou are making me into a crazy person. They eventually decided, on my advice, to indeed go into therapy with Naomi’s pal to try and salvage the relationship. I didn’t realize when I made this suggestion that I would thereby become the recipient of eighty thousand daily phone calls from BOTH sides of the equation to discuss their progress, setbacks, and progress again. If they don’t finish their therapy soon, I’m going to have to seek some of my own.

At the production meeting this morning, they flanked me on either side and kept writing me notes while Ashleigh rambled on R oo m fo r I m p r o v e m e n t

and on about her private meetings with Gary, and her ideas for special episodes.

Jou finally admitted that he still holds a lot of anger about his childhood! Bryan scribbles on the bottom of his notepad and nudges me.

Yesterday Dr. Clarence suggested that it was time for Bryan to acknowledge me with his parents in ways that he usually avoids!!!! Jou pushes a Post-it note over.

“If I’m not interrupting you!” Ashleigh snipes loudly, and every head in the room looks over at the three of us.

Gary glares at me pointedly. Fucker.

For the first time maybe ever, I’m actually looking forward to my workout later. I think the combination of stress-relieving physical activity and the support of Hillary and Naomi will be just the ticket.

“Lily, if you’re ready?” Gary says coldly.

“Of course, Gary.” Whatever .

“Great, thanks,” Gary continues, turning his gaze to the rest of the room. “And thank you, Ashleigh, for sharing your ideas, and as we have been discussing the past two weeks, I’m very interested in the concept of keeping things fresh for our burgeoning audience. Which is why I am pleased to announce the details for the next three episodes.”

Ginny, formerly Paul’s Advil and Tums girl, now Gary’s right hand, starts to hand out the brief on Episodes #7, 8, and 9. Gary continues to talk.
