Section Three

Chapter Eleven

I glanced over my shoulder for one last look at the river as we walked away.

It did not seem to be as foreboding as it did when I crossed. The terrible roaring of the flowing water seemed to be more of a song of hope and deliverance. Wildflowers lined the path we were on, and the air was filled with their aroma and with the sound of birds singing from tree to tree. The warm sun on my face reminded me of the fire the angels had built for me on the other side.

Best of all, I was walking with my Lord. His arm was on my shoulder as we walked. His nearness was giving me strength and the touch of His Presence assured me of His tender love.

“It is as though I have been born again, again, Lord. It is as though I have never known You.”

“You have moved into a new dimension of My Love,” the Lord responded. “Your war is over. You can spend your time with Me, fulfilling your destiny, rather than in fighting your enemies.”

“You mean the enemies of my soul are gone? I will never face them again?” I asked hopefully.

The Lord shook His head. “I said that your war was over. Your enemies had you convinced that the war still raged, but the war is over. If you choose to live in My Kingdom, where My enemies are defeated, you will have peace. If you choose to live in territory where the enemy still prowls, you will, well, you will live as though the war was lost. You must trust Me.”

“But, Lord, sometimes You do not seem to be so near. Sometimes I am alone.”

“I have prepared a place for you, so that where I am living, you also may be living.”

“But I cannot see as You see. I cannot resist.”

“Take courage, and do not be afraid.” Once again, the Lord mercifully interrupted my whining.

“Until now you have been content to see only what others have told you was in the Spirit. Really, you have not seen at all. That is all about to change.

“Your eyes will be opened. You will see into the Spirit. You will see things as they really are. Your ears will hear clearly. You will not be content to hear only what others think they have heard, but you will clearly hear My voice and understand as you have never understood before.

“Your life is changing more radically than you can imagine. My Kingdom is a place of peace and safety. It is a place where the lame leap like a deer, the tongue of the dumb shouts for joy, and refreshing waters break forth from the driest places of your heart. It is a place where streams gush from your innermost being. My Kingdom is a place where deserts become pools and dry land is covered with forests.”

The Lord suddenly stopped. It seemed like He was looking straight through me as He said, “There is a highway in My Kingdom, a roadway.
