We showered and talked and kissed.

As if we were a couple.

As if this were as real as I wanted it to be.

And I liked it so much more than I’d anticipated.

We were going to have to talk about it, but I didn’t want to ruin this magical little bubble of lust we’d been in since last night. She was spectacular, in every way imaginable, and I didn’t know what to do about how much I liked it. I’d thought once we finally had sex it would at least dampen my attraction, but instead, I wanted her even more than before.

“Kington, we need to talk about… this.”

There she went, reading my mind.

We were sitting at a high-top table at the deli around the corner from my condo and we’d just ordered.

“This?” I peered at her over the top of my cappuccino.

“This. Us. Whatever last night was.”

“Technically it was all this morning, but I think it’s pretty clear what it is.”

She cocked her head, her blue eyes focusing on mine. “I’m honestly confused. There’s been this pull between us since we met, but…”

“But?”

“We work together. And I’m new. Not just to the band, but as far as the public is concerned, to the industry. Can you try to look at it from my perspective? The new chick sleeping with the lead singer. It’s a gossip site’s wet dream. No matter what we say, the narrative is going to be that’s how I got the gig.”

“But you already have the gig. I’d never even heard of you when you auditioned.”

“Carter knew me.”

I paused. “Babe, I don’t have any right to ask, but I’m going to because I need to know. So the band can protect you. Did you sleep with Carter?”

She sighed and looked away. “Does it matter if I actually did or if people just assume I did?”

“I guess not, but it helps the band to have the information.”

“The band has to know? It can’t be just you?”

I reached across the table and took her hands in mine. “There’s nothing to be ashamed of. Do you know how many women I’ve slept with? How many one-night stands I’ve had? How many groupies I could notch my bedpost with?”

She looked away. “We had a threesome. Me, him… and Larry.”

“Okay. I have to tell Dorian, so she can be prepared in case that gets out. Are there pictures?”

Her cheeks turned pink. “There might be. I’ve never seen any, but it’s possible. Larry was… into that.”

“And you weren’t.”

“I am not. Just for the record.” Her eyes met mine, this time with no hesitation.

“Understood. It’s not my thing either, to be honest.”

“I’m glad. It’s non-negotiable for me.”

“That’s fine.” I let go of her hands as our breakfast arrived. “Look, as far as this thing with us goes, you have to guide me, Dev. I’m a pretty open book when it comes to dating. If I’m involved with someone, I’m all in until either I decide it’s not working or we decide we’re not on the same page or something.
