CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Richie and the boys giggled and guffawed wildly as they splashed around in the water. They were having a good old fashioned time. Wan was a short distance away and was casually swimming laps back and forth at 25 foot intervals with his butt just beneath the surface of the water. Wan was of course on the swim team at his school and had won many first and second place medals. Wan was aspiring to be an Olympic swimmer someday and trained regularly with a coach that his parents hired. But Wan’s parents wanted him to be at least seventeen before he tried out for the U.S. Olympic swim team because they wanted him to have a normal childhood life. Wan was smart and athletic and was of course a black belt like Richie and the other kids on the ship. Karlen was watching Wan do his laps when Travis snuck up behind him, wrapped his arms around his torso and then quickly tossed Karlen into the water.

“What the…ah!” Karlen yelped as he got dunked in the water. Travis and the other boys all guffawed at Karlen’s dunk misfortune and he never saw it coming.

“Hah, that’s what you get for not paying attention to your surroundings, goofball,” Josh said as he guffawed out of control. Karlen came back up and shook the water off his head and out of his ears. Karlen gave Travis a brief look of mock irritation before he started grinning wickedly.

“Hmm, we’ll just see who has the last laugh, mister,” Karlen said unable to keep a grin off his face as he looked at Travis while the other boys snickered and giggled. Matt noticed Richie looking up in the air and appeared to be concentrating hard on focusing at nothing.

“Uh, Richie, you okay? You look like you’re trying really hard to focus on the sky,” Matt asked as he came up and stood beside Richie. The boys were currently in the water up to their waists and they were unaware the girls were spying on them with a surveillance drone that was hovering four stories up.

“Hmm; well, I thought I saw something weird up in the air,” Richie said with narrowed eyes as he gave Matt a sideways glance. Matt furrowed his brow as he tried to figure out what Richie was getting at.

“Well, there’s nothing up there but clouds and blue sky so…,” Matt paused as a revelation came to him and his eyes widened. Richie just smirked at him. “Uh, you don’t think the girls are spying on us with a drone, do you?” Matt asked with a horrified look.

“Well, I’m not sure. I thought I saw a blur way up in the air, but it could just be me being paranoid,” Richie said with shrugged shoulders as he continued to look up.

“Well, it could be a psychological thing since you know the drones exist and that the girls are all alone on the ship,” Matt said with shrugged shoulders as Josh came up and stood next to them.
