But here's the kicker: do the math the other way around:

the average total cost of your retirement is $284,000.

That's what the state pays out in total for you.

Divide it by 43 years of forced payments or deductions and divide it by 12 to see the monthly that should have been deducted.

The calculations would result in a fixed deduction of just over $500 a month.

If you go to check your paycheck and the actual monthly deductions, you'll see that they are roughly not far off.

So that means that in actual fact, you have simply been given your money back... your money, as if you had put it under the mattress, with a practically non-existent minimal revaluation, if we really want to put a minimal revaluation index.
