I shifted back to my human form when we returned home. I opened the door for Celeste, prowling after her when she stepped inside. I was standing on two legs again, but my wolf still pressed against the surface, his senses trained keenly on our mate. As we came to the end of the hall, Celeste glanced over her shoulder and raised an eyebrow. “Do you need something?”

“Oh, I certainly need,” I replied, smooth as silk, allowing myself a wolfish grin. I stopped a hair’s breadth away from her, barely able to restrain myself from putting my hands all over her right then and there. Normally, I wouldn’t care in my house — it was my home, and I’d do what I wanted.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t sure how much my mate would appreciate being taken apart where anyone could happen upon us. My wolf growled again, seemingly pleased by the idea of having the others know – but I had to shove that down. We could investigate it later, perhaps after bringing it up to Celeste first.

Celeste suddenly turned, scampering toward the stairs. My eyes flashed, and I paced after her, amused by her flirty attempt to lure me up the stairs.

As soon as we were on the second floor, I lunged forward, grabbing her by the wrist. A little yelp escaped, but her eyes were still bright with mischief as I dragged her back toward my master suite. “Come here,” I growled.

She stumbled after me willingly, struggling only to shut the door behind us once we were inside. I still didn’t care if anyone knew, but I wouldn’t stop her.

“Val mentioned this might happen,” she murmured, smiling up at me as I reeled her in — my little siren. I’d dash myself upon the rocks for her.

“Oh?” I asked. “That what might happen?”

“That you’d be like, ah, this after running as a wolf.” Her cheeks suddenly turned pink.

“You were talking about me?” I leaned in to kiss her jawline.

“Well, hypothetically…” Celeste was already starting to whimper. “Look, I didn’t know who else to ask about wolf shifters. I’m training, aren’t I? I thought understanding you would be important.”

“Mhhhm,” I lodged that thought away for later inspection. I wasn’t interested in focusing on anything outside of the beautiful creature in front of me. “Does it bother you?” I finally managed to ask, pulling away from her skin just long enough.

A breathless laugh escaped her. “No,” she replied, ducking her head shyly. “No, it doesn’t bother me.”

I paused for a moment, listening. My smile grew as I realized her pulse was speeding up.

“Oh no. It doesn’t bother you at all,” I surmised, leaning back in. I traced my teeth over her neck, barely able to keep myself from doing more. I can’t bite her. Not yet. I wouldn’t be able to stop myself after that. “I think you like it.”

Celeste whimpered, struggling weakly. It was obvious she wasn’t trying to escape so much as she was trying to protest the assertion. “Fenris,” she sighed, still refusing to meet my gaze.
