Some things can never be reproduced, and the sacrifice of Christ is certainly one of them. It’s possible, for example, to reproduce poor art, or even poor music. But if someone were to ask you to duplicate a Rembrandt, write a symphony like Beethoven or a fugue like Bach, or to write blank verse like Shakespeare or the hexameters of Homer’s Iliad, you couldn’t do it. They are masterpieces, and as such stand alone—and those are just examples from the human realm. Beyond those examples, the sacrifice of Christ is the masterpiece of the ages. It cannot be reproduced or repeated, nor should it be, for it removed sins once for all on behalf of those who believe. We have the amazing privilege of living in that reality as we gaze upon the wonder of wonders: the cross of Jesus Christ.
