Carter slammed the door when he entered the office. He stood for several moments with his hands on his hips attempting to reign in his anger. He knew he would eventually have to do something about the idiocy that had been allowed to linger in the employees, but killing all of them would mean starting over, which took time. Time, he did not have.

He snatched his jacket off of the chair and pulled out his phone. The woman answered before the third ring, “Speak.” Carter let out a low growl, showing his disapproval. She made no sound to indicate his tone bothered her.

“I need you to be back by the end of the week. I have someone I need you to bring back to me.”

“Bring back? You had them and let them go? That doesn’t sound like you, Guthorm.”

“How many times do I have to remind you of what will happen if you continue to use my given name? These shifters are a problem. Their incompetence is causing more problems than they are worth. I don’t know why I listened to her.”

“Oh, posh. You already killed me once, making me do plenty of the unthinkable, what more can you do to me? You’ll continue to put up with it as long as you need me. I told you the shifters were no good. You should have hired my vampires to begin with. One of these days you will learn to listen to me.”

“May I remind you, you are the reason the witches killed me first? What’s the new saying? Payback’s a bitch? They are not your vampires, as your sire, they are mine. You forget your place, Gunhild,” Carter snapped.

“Emilia, Carter. Do you want the same two as before?”

“Yes, and two more with you. And you better know, if you bring me morons, I will rip their heads off and have you sitting with my test subjects for a week. Do not push me.”

A light laugh filled his ear before the call was ended.
